In truth, I read chapters 3 through 5 before I read 2. So, when I read the ideas on classroom use, I was referencing the later chapters in my head. The basics definitely were in my mind. Posting course curriculum, syllabus, handouts, etc. Also, I am constantly now thinking of the Common Core in everything that I do for my instruction and assessment.
In the reading, it was recommended to post writing prompts for students to get them thinking, talking, searching. So much of the ideas that technology can do for students is wrapped up in those critical thinking skills that the Common Core requires. I was interested in the writing prompts and the online readings for my students to read and react to. I thought about combining this with the idea of the RSS feeds. I would like to see if I can get enough appropriate information to be able to post current news items that my students could connect to on a mathematical level. It is always really cool to see what they are thinking about and how they perceive information.
The last bit of information I really liked was the idea of a weblog as a way to show students' progress in portfolio form. The potential is there, but is the time there to actually have us slower people figure it out?
